It's that time of the year again.  Make a reservation at a meaningful restaurant and exchange gifts and so on...  BiR would like to help you choose the best dining experience for your date night.  The following lists the independent restaurants and their specials for Valentine's Day 2014.

Firecracker Shrimp: Shrimp sautéed with garlic, shallots and chili flakes finished with parmesan cream sauce served with crustini. $13

Páte Choux Gnocchi: House made gnocchi with fava beans & wild mushroom Meyer lemon creme fraiche sauce finished with a white balsamic reduction. $11

Foie Gras Torchon: Hudson Valley foie gras torchon served with toasted brioche & port cherry compote. $13

Baked Brun-Uusto Cheese: Creamy cow’s milk cheese from Darlington, Wisconsin, baked with roasted garlic til golden brown served with fresh pears, aged balsamic & crustini. $10

Ahi Tuna: Pan seared rare, paired with house made spicy miso sauce finished with a sweet Japanese aioli. $14

She-Crab Soup: Finished with sherry, chives & Sun Shine Cove Farm micro greens. $10


Baby Beet Salad: Local New River Organics baby beets, oven roasted, tossed with mix lettuces in a sherry vinaigrette, served over a goat cheese fondant, finished with croutons and basil oil. $9

Caesar Salad: Crisp romaine lettuce, imported Parmesan, herbed croutons and traditional Caesar dressing. $8

Wild Mushroom Salad: Shiitake mushrooms sautéed in our house made pancetta vinaigrette tossed with balsamic currants, marcona almonds, finished with Manchego cheese. $9

Caveman Blue & Pear Salad: Fresh mixed greens tossed in onion thyme vinaigrette with Caveman Blue Cheese and fresh pears. $8

Filet Mignon: 8oz. filet served over Boursin Cheese mashed potatoes finished with a chive compound butter and caramel jus. $36

Atlantic Striped Bass: Wild caught bass, pan seared, served over black quinoa finished with a roasted shallot marmalade & port wine reduction. $27

Red Wine Braised Lamb Shank: Slow cooked lamb shank served over sweet potato risotto, finished with Bordelaise & favetta. $28

Scallops Au Poivre: * Black peppercorn dusted scallops, pan-seared with apple wood smoked bacon brandy cream sauce, served with crispy fingerling potatoes. $30

Heritage Farm Pork Tenderloin: All natural, hormone free pork tenderloin topped with slow braised pork cheek served over mashed potatoes finished with a whole grain mustard sauce. $27

Shrimp and Grits: Sautéed shrimp served over creamy polenta finished with a red eye gravy of prosciutto, shiitake mushrooms and bell peppers. $23

Black’n Bleu Ribeye: Blackened 12oz. ribeye, finished with a spicy Italian sausage, red onions, bell peppers & cajun shrimp gorgonzola sauce served over mashed potatoes. $35

Locally made Three Cheese Ravioli: Hand made ravioli by the Drake Family of Highpoint, NC, filled with fresh ricotta, Parmesan & Pecorino cheese tossed with wild mushrooms, pine nuts, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, garlic & shallots finished with white wine truffle cream sauce. $20

Scottish Salmon: Pistachio encrusted salmon served over roasted marble potatoes finished with Moscato-currant brown butter sauce. $25 


Creme Brulee: Classic French custard served flambe. $7
